Periscope maps remote database tables into the Oracle database thru ODBC and JDBC drivers. These drivers typically come from the database manufacturers. We load these drivers into Oracle when we install Periscope in the Oracle database.

The first step in remote database access is the creation of a virtual link between a remote table and the local Oracle database. Periscope uses a browser based configuration tool to link disparate database tables into the Oracle database. We call this process VIRTUALIZATION.

In the following example, we will setup a virtual connection between a table in the HP SQL/MX database and Oracle.

STEP 1: Begin by selecting the database driver that matches the platform you wish to access.

Select the Gateway that points to the Tandem SQL/MX database
